West Grand - CO Statute Requirements
UIP - Gifted Addendum May 11, 2020
Gifted Education at West Grand School District is Divergent. The district has a small number of identified gifted students, below publicly reportable numbers. Monitoring achievement and growth of each gifted student will be documented in the students’ ALP, or until such a time the district has enough students to include in the UIP. Trend Statement: Gifted students show high achievement, and in many cases, low growth on MAPs data in the areas where they are identified.

CO READ Act
West Grand 2021 Literacy Program Report At the beginning of every school year, we use the Acadience Reading (formerly known as DIBELS-Next) assessment to give us a baseline score on our students in kindergarten through third grade, as required by the Colorado READ Act. If this screening suggests that a student is well below benchmark, the classroom teacher will track the student over the next few weeks with three progress monitoring tests to verify that the student does indeed need intensive support in order to learn to read. A DIBELS Deep diagnostic assessment will be done to help the classroom teacher target instruction to address the student’s specific reading deficits. A READ Plan is also created to monitor interventions that are being used to help the student attain the expected grade-level skills. This READ Plan is discussed with the parents and the participation and input of the parents is requested so that the child is supported as much as possible. Parents are also given a copy of the CDE’s “Talking Points” that outline the importance of READ Plans for a student’s success. After the mid-year benchmark assessments, the classroom teacher may print off a copy of the student’s benchmark results and the progress monitoring results for the parents. Some teachers also enclose a copy of the Home Connect Literacy Performance Report that gives another graphical representation of the student’s growth, as well as make suggestions for activities that could be done at home to boost the child’s growth in reading. For the 2019-2020 year we have 45 students with active READ Plans. The READ Act funding that we received this year was going to be used this spring towards the purchase of a new Reading curriculum for our school. Unfortunately, delays in the publishing of the “Advisory List of Instructional Programming” were compounded by the closure of our state by the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful that it has been decided that we will be able to roll over more of this money into the next school year to help with the purchase of a CDE approved reading curriculum. Areas of focus for the 2020-2021 school year will include training our K-5 staff in using the new curriculum with fidelity and learning the program’s intervention strategies. We will also be moving forward with the K–3 Teacher Evidence-Based Reading Training, as required by the recent changes to the Colorado READ Act. |
